Stephanie Williams's Mad Cave Studios time-travel series Temporal earned her two 2026 Eisner nominations โ€” Best Writer and Best New Series โ€” making her the first Black woman ever nominated for Best Writer.

Comic writer Stephanie Williams (@whysteph) became the first Black woman ever nominated for an Eisner Award in the Best Writer category when the 2026 nominations were announced โ€” and only the second Black writer since 1995 to be recognized in the category at all. The nomination is for her Mad Cave Studios time-travel sci-fi heist series Temporal, drawn by Asiah Fulmore, which also picked up an Eisner nod for Best New Series.

“I want those pre-orders through the roof. Consider it a challenge because we want to give readers the stories they're asking for.” โ€” Stephanie Williams

Williams's credits stretch across DC and Marvel since 2021 โ€” co-writing Nubia and the Amazons and Nubia: Queen of the Amazons, plus contributions to Wakanda, Storm, Wolverine, Moon Girl, Shuri, Scarlet Witch, Marvel's Voices, and Magic: The Planeswalkers โ€” alongside Street Sharks at IDW and Roots of Madness at Ignition Press. She was named to Adweek's Creative 100 in 2023.
