Plan a Trip to Ghana for the Year of Return

How Black Americans plan a Ghana trip.

The Year of Return

Launched 2019, the Year of Return invites Black Americans to visit Ghana 400 years after the first enslaved Africans were brought to colonial Virginia.

Visa

Single-entry tourist visa via the Embassy of Ghana — about $60 + processing. Allow 2 weeks.

What to see

Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle (slave-trade dungeons). The Door of No Return. Nzulezo stilt village. The Bonwire kente weaving village.

The vibe

December is Detty December — the Ghanaian celebration packed with Black-American visitors. Hotels book six months out.
