Tonja K. Johnson

Tonja K. Johnson is a Black speculative fiction author based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is an acquiring editor for FIYAH Literary Magazine and was named the 2024 MN BIPOC Emerging Writer in fiction. Her debut novel DARK STAR is a magical HBCU horror story set in a reverse sundown town — featuring a Black death cult, an all-Black cast, and a magic system rooted in Hoodoo. She is releasing it both serially on Substack (free) and through Amazon (Kindle), with a stated goal of writing books that don't center white fragility.
