Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee. After leaving Ike Turner in 1976 with 36 cents and a gas-station credit card, she rebuilt her career with Private Dancer (1984) — five Grammys, four world tours, and a Kennedy Center honoree.
