The word Miiriya is a word from the African language of Bambara/Dioula, my native language. The word means “Thoughts” and “Ideas.” It can be used in many ways. In specific cases you can use it with other words to mean “Philosophers” or “Thinkers.” It can also mean being thoughtful, meaning being conscious of where and with who your energy is spent. I chose this name to step away from European names for the first time, and use a name from an original language of the ancestors. I saw a few people had a problem with the name I chose; If you passively have no problems with names like Häagen-Dazs, Hyundai, Voltswagen etc, I hope the name isn’t a problem to you. Miiriya gathers people who believe in ideas, change, and come together as creatives and thinkers to make those ideas come true. It’s a place that aims to provide you with whatever comes to mind. My goal is to create convenience for shoppers who want to support black businesses seamlessly, while also creating a surge recirculating the Black dollar. My goal for the site in the community is to run this website in a socialistic way. Similar to Wikipedia and PBS, and all money made from the site will be seeped back into solving different issues in our community. In the future, I plan to have optional donations where the public and vendors can participate, and this website will be used to fund issues we always have to beg to be solved. I plan to put things like community fridges in front of businesses and houses, where people who are hungry in the community can just open them and not have to go without food. I also plan to use any funds to fund the community’s healthcare, education, and more. I want to run this in a different way than other businesses, where the main goal is to make sure no one is left behind. I want to reach a point where If we see someone on the street who is struggling/homeless, we take them off the street, and better their lives. I’d like us to reach a point where we’d fund ourselves so we don’t have to rely and beg outside sources that continuously give us crumbs over the span of decades. I want to prove that doing socialistic practices and working together as a community can work. Please let someone know this app exists. This aims to bring the entire Black Community together, our diverse cultures, Black Africans, Black Americans, Black Caribbean Americans etc, as diverse as we all are, we’re all one team, let’s all stick together and become Giants that take care of the communities around us. Let’s drop the Diaspora Wars, understand each other as a team, and become a force. Yes, I, the creator of the app, am Black. I was Born in the United States. My last name “Loco” is not Spanish, but is an African last name from Benin, it’s a variation spelling of the Beninois last name “Loko.” How to pronounce Miiriya simply: Me – ree – ya How to pronounce Miiriya (Like a native): Me – e – ree – ya Me as in myself, E like the letter E, Ree like the Ree in Reel (but with a Spanish R) and Ya.
